Wigton windmill

Windmills are thin on the ground in Cumbria, and if I were to guess where there might be one, Wigton is not a place that would readily spring to mind.  However, here it is.  Built in the late 18th century, it has stood without its sails since 1840.  The roof is of Welsh slate, which is a bit odd, as we have abundant slate in Cumbria.  Unusually it is elliptical in section and slopes upwards asymmetrically. (It slopes downwards asymmetrically too!).  The structure to the left belongs to Innovia, and is where the film for our banknotes is made.  A friend who used to work there always told people he worked in the film industry.
