Yep, a collage!

Worcester

A quiet Saturday, resting up after yesterday’s mini adventure, browsing through my photos from the day. So...

When I asked my mum where she would like to go for her Mothers’ Day lunch, she said Worcester. So for the second time, the two of us headed out for the day on the train as a Mothers’ Day treat. (I’ve been told before that I’m very good at making special occasions last as long as possible; I think I must have inherited the trait!)

Two hours after leaving our local station we were in Worcester, where we followed a walking route that took us past Almshouses, the ornate Guildhall with its beautiful Assembly Rooms, Elgar’s statue, and down to the River Severn where Worcester’s famous swans were receiving their daily feed, so many of them!

Then on to the cathedral, one of the loveliest in England, with the royal tombs of King John (1166-1216) and Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales (1486-1502) (older brother of Henry VIII), medieval cloisters, ancient crypt and chapter house, magnificent Victorian stained glass, and a lovely little cafe in the cloisters serving tasty lunches!

Next stop was Greyfriars’ House, a timbered medieval merchant's House, looked after by National Trust, then, to round off the day, a visit to a patisserie for some very naughty but nice cakes! A day of very overcast skies, but at least it stayed dry right up until our train home...

(As always, collage looks better in large)
