Dearest Mother

I should have posted this yesterday, 11th March 2018 which was Mother's Day in the UK.

The book was in our cabin when we boarded the Canberra.

A collection of letters written by Franklin Richardson Kendall, a Cornishman born in 1839 who followed his father in to the service of P&O in 1856 and from 1858 began two years of overseas postings in the Far East and Australia at P&O. The letters to his mother describe the Victorian Empire at his pinnacle.

We were at sea today, somewhere between Malaga and Athens.
