If you can't beat them...

Greystoke Castle.

A wet not very pleasant day which kept me inside for the bulk of it.  However in the afternoon we had a walk out as far as the "Castle" so that Clickychick could have her first attempt with her mother's day present.

The house is always referred to and is officially called the castle.  It is clear to see that it isn't really a castle.  The current building dates to the late 19th Century after the previous building burned down after a maid left a candle burning in a linen cupboard.  The current building was built using materials and labour from the estate.

Earlier buildings date back to at least 1069 when Llyulph de Greystoke had a wooden tower surrounded by a pale or pele fence.
