Tate Modern

A marathon session today: Modligliani in the morning and Picasso in 1932 in the afternoon.

What struck me most about Modigliani was the graphic background to many of his portraits. It might have be stylised furniture, or a doorframe, but there is definitely geometry behind many of the figures.

I wasn't as wowed by Picasso as the critics have been but looking at the dates on the pictures I was astonished by his productivity. And interested in his take on art being a diary – obvious really but I hadn't thought about it before – so it became clear to his wife from looking at his paintings that there was another woman.

This is the tenth floor brick grid and reflections of it, with tower blocks behind.
