Surfing and rafting

After a wild night, with the wind howling in from the East, the gulls seem to be enjoying a spot of surfing. This was the harbour wall at Collieston this morning.

Extra. Meanwhile, another lucky dip from a long time ago and a long way away. This young Fijian lad, proudly clutching his cane-knife, is standing on a bilibili, a raft made of bamboo stems. The rafts were used to transport bananas, yams, dalo, cassava and other agricultural products down the Rewa river, from the interior to the coastal markets.
