A Rainy Day

Many thanks for all the birthday wishes. I think we'll probably just continue celebrating it for another week or so.

My neighbor came by with a lovely book of Gary Snyder poetry called Danger on Peaks with a cover picture by Tom Killion, both local artists.

Rick and Meg finally made it yesterday evening and I invited Jim and Dana and Peter to join us for dinner, so we had a pleasant family evening together after all. I was pleased that Peter, along with most of his high school and several other Santa Rosa high schools walked out of class for seventeen minutes to honor the seventeen students gunned down at a high school in Parkland Florida, and to say "enough is enough" when it comes to the grip of the National Rifle Association on the elected officials of this country. I believe the young people of this nation are our best hope for fixing the mess we have left them with. They are a courageous lot....

It has been rainy, cold and miserable all day and consequently we have elected to stay home, put some corned and cabbage in the crock pot, turn on the fireplace and watch The Darkest Hour...a wonderful movie. Gary Oldham definitely deserved the Oscar for his portrayal of Churchill....
