Wakehurst Place

We had a lovely day out today - visited Wakehurst Place in Sussex which houses the Millennium seed bank (part of Kew Gardens) where seeds from all round the world are being preserved for the future.  There is a very interesting display showing some of the work taking place especially how they are trying to work out how to preserve those seeds that are recalcitrant. Seems to be those with high oil content that wont freeze down well and survive so a lot of research is going on.
We had a lovely walk around the grounds and saw many rhododendron, azalea, camellia just about to burst forth. In a few weeks the gardens will be spectacular.  At the moment the cyclamen are in wondrous profusion and the colour variations were beautiful.
A glorious day weather wise too.
