Double Rainbow Luck!

This double rainbow appeared before us on our way to the community center to perform in Som Subedi’s play, “Only a Plastic Bag: A refugee Family's Journey.” Som, a refugee from Bhutan, wrote the play for “Portland Stands with Refugees and Immigrants,” a celebration sponsored by the parks bureau. About 600 folks attended the event and we held our reader’s theatre in a classroom in the community center. We had about 75 folks at the first reading and about 20 at the second.  It was well received!  Those of us, who performed in it, had a fine time, even though we only had 3 rehearsals prior! Several cast members were refugees, from Cameroon, Myanmar and Viet Nam. It’s amazing that we became such good friends in that short time working together on the play.
White supremacists threatened to disrupt the evening, but were met outside the building by a small group of Antifa lads, who apparently chased them off. When the white supremacists banged on the door of the Portland Police office across the street from the community center, the police ignored them and they departed.  Inside the building, the evening unfolded without incident.
