Looking for the old life.....

Today we left our bed early and went down to the wharf in Auckland to board the ferry out to the Great Barrier Island. The island lies in the outer Hauraki Gulf, 100 kilometers north east of Auckland - 4 hours by boat or 30 mins by plane and is the 6th largest island in NZ and is like stepping back in time - we have been left in charge of a house whilst the owner is away, we don't know him, he doesn't know us but here are keys, make yourselves comfortable!
It was a rough trip with lots of folk reaching for the sick bag, but the good thing about sea sickness is the moment your feet touch terra firma it usually goes.
We are now happily ensconced in our rather wonderful beach accomadation looking across the dunes to Medlands Beach. We will fall asleep tonight to the sound of the waves.
Photos show Auckland harbour bridge with an enormous private yatch in front, the other is the sun rising over the gulf.
