Hmmm...

Just up the road from us is the UCSC Arboretum, a colorful refuge featuring plants from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and California. This is hummingbird season and the place is ticking with tiny birds who love the exotic plants. We spent a couple hours wandering the gardens and watching avian antics. This is an Anna’s Hummingbird, to the best of my ability to identify something on the wing. The Extra is an Allen’s—it perfectly matches some internet photos. It’s big fun to be buzzed by creatures about the size of your thumb and “weighing about the same as a nickel,” as the sign says. What a wonderful outing!
