Minna Canth's Day

Today the Finnish flags were flying for two reasons: the anniversary of Minna Canth‘s birth in 1844 and celebration of social equality in Finland. Canth is the first woman to receive her own flag day in Finland,

Minna Canth is remembered for her writing and social activism. It is no accident that the Finnish Day for Equality falls on her birthday. Canth pioneered Finland's spirit of equality, she stood out when there was public debate about women's rights. A widow, raising seven children on her own, she also managed the family drapery shop and pursued a career in writing.

It was this light at 17:30 when I shot this Pyhäjärvi lake view near my office. Bliss!
