La vida de Annie

Fiesta del podenco.

Today we attended an event by the Protectora d'Animales celebrating the Podenco. Warren Hound refers to the group of Mediterranean hare-hunting dogs. In Spanish, this kind of breeds are called podencos. These dogs tend to get a bad press as pets as they are often used for hunting, and at the end of the season left to make their own way in the wild. As a result of interbreeding there is great diversity in the breed, some giant slender beasts and others short and stocky with stumpy legs. All are endearing and the ones at the show were presented in a catwalk (dogwalk?) to the audience, who mostly had dogs of their own with them. The aim is to get adoptive homes for them, and hopefully some will succeed. Maxie is used to dogs and took it all calmly in her stride, but Buster had a dominance crisis and barked fiercely at the largest ones, first checking that they were firmly attached to a lead.
