Cat Law

When the snow started on Friday it was quite damp, but overnight it was colder and drier snow that fell so there was a good cover of powdery snow in the glen. We decided to go up Cat Law, the highest hill within walking distance of where we were staying. The forecast was for frequent snow showers and strong winds with potential sunny spells later; as it turned out there were fewer showers than forecast. I like wind, snow and spindrift so had a great day’s walking. As we got higher the snow was a mix of icy old snow and new windblown powder so most of the time was actually quite pleasant. The blip is the track we followed on the way up the splendidly name long Goat and the extra of Long Goat from the upper slopes of Cat Law. We went down a different way to make a circuit and got back in time to see that Scotland had beaten Italy at the rugby. Our day then became better as 'scummy' Ireland won the grand slam on St Paddy’s Day, relegating the Auld Enemy to fifth place in the table. Such a shame (not) for Eddie Jones and his boys.
