Spring at the Petit Palais

We saw two excellent exhibitions at the Petit Palais today: "The Art of Pastel from Degas to Redon", and "Dutch Artists in Paris, 1789 to 1914. The pastels are from the Petit Palais's own collection and are rarely shown--a real treat.  The other show was organized in unusual fashion: by sections devoted to individual Dutch artists. This worked very well, especially since the paintings' subjects hewed closely to the Paris theme--especially for Van Gogh, with several works which we had not seen before. I especially enjoyed the small group of early Piet Mondrians--each of his early works is special. The Petit Palais is a striking building in its own right, as you see in the blip,  and its permanent collection of paintings is always worth seeing.
