Ancient Dragons of Patara

Somehow the dragonflies ( red dragonfly here) of the high dunes and cliffs above the 17km Patara Beach, represent the "ancient-ness" of this area. (Large blues eyes here.) Patara itself was the largest port of the Lycian civilisation 2000 years ago. Now the ruins of this port, including a huge amphitheatre, are slowly being uncovered again by archaeologists. For me the best story of this beach is that it is one of the few remaining beaches in the world where the LOGGERHEAD TURTLES (can't get a photo of them unfortunately) still come to lay their eggs between May and October, so measures are in place to ensure that it can be enjoyed by holiday makers and still remain protected for the turtles. Hurray, the sun has returned too.
