The Caley

A very enjoyable evening dining in the Pompadour restaurant of the Caledonian Hotel. A Christmas present from T&K which, this being holiday week, we booked for tonight. A five course dinner, which we somehow seemed to augment with the cheeseboard, saw us rolling back for the train. The food was all really good with lots of subtle flavours to ponder.

The Caley is upmarket. I’m old enough to remember when the hotel sat atop a railway station with trains heading west out of the city centre. The hotel has always been quite grand but since its most recent makeover it really does look swish. There are many reminders of the old railway terminus as well as of the grand old hotel of the early 20th century. The red sandstone comes from Dumfries.

Went into town early to make a visit to Rogersons shoes for some sandals (ever the optimist) and some buckthorn tea from Eteaket. On the train home now. With a very full tummy.
