Falls of Unich

Glorious day today, great for the added-in hillwalk with friends.
We met at the Glen Esk (Angus) road end and did an 18k route along to the old church by Loch Lee (1st extra) then up along the loch and beyond before turning off to the Falls of Unich. With the melting snow there was a lot of water coming down and a lot of spray.
We walked up the burn, almost to the next set of falls and then turned off steeply up the hill. The views from the top were magnificent, it was so clear, with Lochnagar and Mount Keen being the Munros in sight. I was very glad of a rest for lunch as I'd run out of energy on the way up.
Down was over snowfields which were just soft enough to walk in easily (apart from the odd extra soft bit where it was knee deep) and there were views back down the valley to the loch (2nd extra). At least 20 mountain hares were running around, still in white coats.
The final stretch back along the track was a bit of a slog, and rather warm, and we finished up with tea and cake in Edzell.
A good workout when the recent walks have been much shorter.
