Now we're cooking!

The demise of the Transition Surplus Food Cafe last year has left a gap in the lives of volunteers and customers alike. However the team now has the use of a kitchen in another premises which is on the way to becoming a community hub for voluntary groups to use for meetings, office space,  rehearsals, yoga, craft activities and so on.

Although we will no longer be running a cafe we will still cater for occasional events.  Today a few of the old kitchen hands got together to make a light supper for a film and discussion at the local theatre. Through the  hatch you can see Elenor stirring soup, Sarah making flapjacks and Julia sorting out bread and cakes donated from the farmers' market. All the veggies we used were foraged or bartered surplus from local suppliers. We still have most of our old kitchen equipment but we missed our huge halogen hob  which did not survive the move

I was too tired to stay on to see the film Seeding Change but it was about responsible food production and land use to promote biodiversity, to move away from industrialised agriculture and to reduce food waste.
