Dresden

Dresden is special - when one sees how the city has been rebuilt after the world war bombings and communist era, one feels truly humbled. On the banks of the river Elba there is a wonderful atmosphere all around. And of course more music!! We were fortunate to hear the Dresden Boys and mens choir sing at the Kreuzkirchen on both the Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
Another highlight was a special performance for us at the Hofkirche on this magnificent Silbermann organ, the only surviving organ of its kind . Most of it was dismantled during the war and removed to a safe place. The cathedral was bombed but like so many others, has been rebuilt and the organ restored. The rich sounds from this beautiful instrument sent shivers down one's spine!
That night we went to a performance at the Semper Opera of the operetta Barber of Seville..whew talk about music overload!
