Every cloud ....

The downside of the cold blasts we have experienced this month was in evidence in the garden on our return.  The second blast came here with minimal snow cover and has scorched the foliage on a number of plants, killing one or two outright I fear.  The silver lining, if you can call it that, is that the season for the spring bulbs has been extended.  The final two or three crocuses are still hanging on, almost three months after the season started here on 30th December.   I've had a crocus (or two) in flower for a lot longer though, the autumn crocus season starting almost 7 months ago.

In my crocus talks I always say that when the first of the pulsatillas raises it's head to the sun, the crocus season is almost done.  We were short on sunshine today but the extra shows the truth in this homespun folklore :-)
