Maria Island

Visited Maria Island one of Tasmania's National Parks. Its famous for its geology, its social history, yes another convict prison and its natural history. Saw wombats and kangaroos  although the latter jumped away too fast to be photographed. Tasmanian devils free of the face cancer that is devasting their numbers are being released here to create a cancer free population but they are noturnal and we did not see one.  The "painted clffs" are one of the sights on the must see tourist  list for Tasmania and we were not disappointed. Iron oxide dripping through sandstone has cretaed amazing patterns
