Ross Bridge

Ross; Tasmanias finest "heritage" village does have a lot of beautiful buildings from the mid 1800s. The three arched stone bridge was built by convicts in 1836 including a convict stone mason Daniel Herbert who was granted freedom when the bridge was finished. Herbert's 186 carvings decorate both sides of all three arches of the bridge; the 3rd oldest bridge still in use in the whole of Australia.  I also admired the old post office dating from 1889 (extra) . Went inside to buy a stamp to send Mum a postcard and found that the inside too looks like it dates from 1889.
