Between this viewpoint on Pencraig Hill beside the A1 and the distant Lammermuir hills is the blister-shaped laccolith (former underground magma chamber) of Traprain Law and the deep valley of the River Tyne.  We had walked along the riverbank which was still strewn with wild snowdrops and emerging leaves of three cornered leek and wild garlic to Hailes Castle which is just discernible below that little triangular field on the right.  Then we went up between fields to the Law noticing the different effects of glaciation and volcanic effects on the land before returning to East Linton.
