Handmade guitars

Our excellent guide Emilio took us to several artisan villages/shops. Beautiful guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, and some similar but unfamiliar instruments were produced by two artisans. This photo shows intricate inlay designs that are made by gluing very thin strips of  dyed wood together and cutting them into tiny pieces which are then worked into these wonderful designs.
The extras are carvings on the back of some instruments, the third is made from an armadillo skin.
In another village Panama hats (which are not made in Panama) are woven by local artisans and then taken to a workshop for all the finishing processes. Of course we all bought a hat!
We also visited a weaving workshop and a small Inca ruins. What a great day!
