Easter Poinsettia

We won this Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) in a raffle at a local amateur dramatic production in the village hall back in November 2016.

The plant maintained a fine show of red leaves throughout Christmas that year, and continued to flourish through the whole of 2017 - although as the year progressed, it became entirely green.

Hoping to see another fine display of red leaves for Christmas 2017, we began shortening its exposure to light from around the middle of November, by hiding it for longer and longer periods in our cupboard under the stairs.

This proved utterly futile. Then - as the days started lengthening again - we discovered more and more leaves were turning red just through leaving the plant in its regular spot by the kitchen window. And now it's putting on a perfect display for Easter...
