Scalloped!

There are brass scallop shells set into the pavement at regular intervals in Cahors, which was a passing-through point for pilgrims en route to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain. The scallop shell was the symbol of the pilgrimage, carved into the lintels of houses where pilgrims could expect food and drink. Spotted today on a trip to the town, it seemed very timeous, in the wake of BBC2s excellent three-part documentary following a group of seven British personalities walking the Camino.
