Amethyst Deceiver

I spent the morning in a fruitless search for arborglyphs in a previously unvisited area of woodland while the spaniel ran around in an equally fruitless search for rabbits. At one point he put up a stag which hurtled straight towards me lying prone on the ground, I'm still not sure how it missed me.

Why was I lying down? I'd just spotted one of my favourite fungi - the amethyst deceiver (Laccaria amethystina) which is easy to identify when its in this small and brightly coloured state but it loses the colour very quickly and looks like so many other nondescript fungi.
