Makes You Pant

Pant = Deposit. This is a pant collecting machine at our local supermarket, every supermarket has at least one. When I moved to Denmark in 2001 this was already old hat, as was paying 30 pence for a plastic bag. The idea is that every can, bottle or drinking container (except wine bottles) have a return/deposit value of 13, 20 or 36 pence. This is a private, non profit enterprise that covers most of Scandinavia (Carlsberg are behind it in Denmark).

An odd and unsettling side effect of this is the can collectors. O.A.Ps supplement their pension, beggars improve takings, kids make pocket money by digging through bins looking for Pant.

I also haven't had the satisfaction of crushing a beer can in 16 years.
