What's Wrong With This Picture?

Doggy Day Care is in operation again as Dana and Jim and Peter are spending the day at UC Davis, Dana's alma mater and a prospective choice for Peter. Since they were going to be gone all day, they thought it would best not to leave the dogs to their own devices all day...

Even before I left for class this morning, I looked out the window to see Blake enjoying the last of a brand new suet cake. Dana's comment was 'yum'. My response was 'good thing he chose the one with nuts and berries and not the one with bugs'...although it would probably have been all the same to him, if not for us to contemplate.

I've put a picture of Peter enjoying his college tour and another of Julia at hers at Connecticut College in the extras.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.  He was in Memphis Tennessee to lead a march he had organized for better wages for sanitation workers.

He gave a rather prophetic speech on the evening before the march.  He said , We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I have been to the mountaintop...and I have seen the Promised Land.  Witnesses said that Dr King had tears in his eyes as he took his seat. He was shot dead less than 24 hours later....

He made many memorable speeches, and his style of delivery made them even memorable.  Many of us feel that we are currently living through some pretty dark days, but I think the 60's were far worse. Three of our best and brightest young leaders were murdered, and  many more of the country's young men and women were dying pointlessly in Vietnam . Dr KIng once said  that the definition of arrogance in leadership is thinking that we have everything to teach and nothing to learn. That was prophetic too.
