A small celebration

We went to sign the Compromis today. A cooling off period of ten days commences shortly and only after that will any real movement on the purchase happen. Buying a house in France requires the patience of a saint.

The signing itself turned out to be multiple signatures plus the initialing of both sides of a many paged heap of A4, a process that took around two hours.

One good outcome is that we finally have a tangible date: the sale must conclude no later than the 15th of June.

The occasion seemed to merit celebration. We are keeping the heavyweight stuff for the final hurdle and opted for a Crèmant d'Alsace this evening. We forgot to buy Cassis so I had some of the Cherry and Blackberry syrup in my makeshift Kir and it actually worked very well.

It has been tremendously hot today, even up here at the lake the air temperature reached 23°C. We have dug out our shorts.

Things being very much in abeyance now we see no reason to rush away from here so have booked 4 nights. The next key date is 11th April, when the current tenants move out. The vendor returns to France on the 20th and we may be able to work out an interim rental agreement then.

So, back to kicking our heels and exploring France for now. It doesn't seem such a bad way to spend our time.
