Winston Churchill

A couple of weeks ago Alexander asked Bad Granny if she'd met Winston Churchill... So she said "no, but my grandad did'.

Dickie (fourth from right in the front row) worked for Cassells, who published Churchill's books. After he retired he was invited back to this event, laying the foundation stone of their new offices. My granny told me their original buildings were close to St Paul's cathedral and were destroyed in the blitz, but they went back to work in temporary offices the next day.

Apparently Eartha Kitt was also at this do and Dickie proclaimed her "a very nice lady", which may have not been the standard reaction at the time. My granny looked at him in amazement.
