Fag break

The weather was really awful today. It's poured steadily with rain all day, and more of the same is forecast for the rest of the week. We'd already arranged to go to the modern art museum in Céret with U and D this afternoon, and it was probably about the best option for a wet Sunday afternoon. See second extra for how wet it was in Céret -- yet still the smokers were sitting outside the couple of cafes that were open, so desperate were they. The smoker in my main blip was sheltering under an overhang in the courtyard of the museum.

The exhibition was of Catalan painter Joan Ponç. There was an interesting short film of friends and colleagues reminiscing about him which made his work a little more comprehensible. He did absurd paintings in Daliesque style but varied quite a lot over the course of his career. The third extra is a rare cheery offering; most were quite gloomy, especially as towards the end of his life he suffered complications from diabetes, including loss of vision. The first extra is one of his still lifes inspired by Cézanne. I was quite taken with these; nothing like Cézanne's work, but you can see the shapes and composition Cézanne used so often. Not sure I'd want any of his work on my wall though.

We were grateful to D for driving us home through torrential rain on the busy autoroute. Back chez nous, the fire was still burning and I did the rounds of three grumpy cats glaring out at the rain (looking after G's while she is away).

Last night's concert in Capendu inevitably wasn't as good as the first, but it still went OK. And the buffet afterwards was better :)
