Barbed wire and horse radishes!

Today was a day of meetings with my Heritage Watch voluntary PR hat on. First meeting took place at Leeds Castle where we took some action shots to promote a new project to protect heritage assets and prevent heritage crime. Here I am studying a map of Ramsgate’s heritage assets with a colleague.

Whilst the majority of heritage assets are private homes (around 20,000 in Kent), I learnt that several protected heritage assets along the seafront are concrete blocks used as defence barriers in WW2. The barbed wire they were attached to was all removed by April 1945.

Meanwhile in Swanscombe an ancient archaeological site is under threat of damage from theft of wild horseradishes growing on the land. It’s so bizarre you’d think I was making it up!

The second meeting today took place at the Kent Police Headquarters for our quarterly meeting. A productive session as next year’s conference location was offered. Not a bad result for a Monday!
