Cherry Plum

Prunus cerasifera.
One of the first blossom trees to come into flower. In the south of England it can flower in mid to late February. It is self fertile but can also be pollinated by other Prunus such as Victoria plum.

The fruit from this tree, which looks like a cross between a cherry and a plum, is good to eat.
The Extra shows the tree in full. Sadly these heavy April showers and strong winds will mean that the wonderful show will be over in a few days.
This is one of three in the walled garden of Arnside’s Ashmeadow Woodlands. One of my followers will be amused to learn that in the wall behind the tree there is a Geocache.
