Cocktails and Broken Hearts

For a number of years one of my neighbours has been the artist Jack Vettriano. He is a controversial artist, disliked by most in the art establishment. I remember once an art critic very dismissively commenting that Jack's art was mere narrative painting that anyone could understand. Quite a devastating critique he no doubt thought.

Anyway, some years ago, and before we knew Jack would be one of our neighbours, we had decided to buy a few limited editions to hang in our flat. He noticed our prints through the lounge winnow, and would regularly chat with us.

Jack does a lot of charity work and gives of his time to students and others to talk about his career and approach to painting. In many ways a down to earth fellow despite his fame and riches. I like that. The photo above is of "Cocktails and Broken Hearts". It hangs next to my drinks cupboard, very appropriately.

Jack nowadays spends most of his time elsewhere, including the south of France and London.
