Ours, or theirs?

Hurrying to work this morning, my eye was caght by a very large black bird (raptor) circling slowly, dipping and rising, above the cricket pitch on the Heriots playing field. The flight pattern seemed odd, but i don't know enough to know why.

So i stopped to watch, and realised it was sticking to a very restricted air space by.

I finally spotted the giant flexble rod it was attached to: a scarecrow!

Not an oystercatcher, curlew, pigeon or gull in sight.

It seems to me the cricketers only really need to fuss about the bowler's run, the fielders being big enough to deal with wee divots and clumps as they run.

The birds were here first, and need to eat!
