Yellow dust everywhere...

... thanks to these things!
All of a sudden over the last 24 hours, a yellow dust has appeared covering absolutely everything. It always at about this time every year and it is pine pollen.
Pine trees produce large (very large) amounts of pollen each spring. You may not know this, but pine trees have both male and female pine cones (well I didn't until recently!) The male cones are usually smaller and often not even noticed, but the pollen that they produce is.
Pine pollen is large and heavy and drops quickly to the ground, which is why it coats everything. A lot of people blame the pine pollen for causing sneezing and other allergies, but, because it drops out of the air quickly and also because it has a waxy coating, it usually isn’t a cause of allergies. The main cause of sneezing is all of the other trees that are producing pollen at the same time.
In today's extra photo you can see that the car bonnet is covered in the stuff, and around the down-pipe where water has pooled and dried there is a thick yellow residue.
Fascinating stuff!
