Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

At the Zoo

The granddaughters came over and we had lots of stories about all the great animals we saw ....we brought them t-shirts and an African animal. so when we asked what they wanted to do for a short while today --the answer was: THE ZOO. Well, OK, it was actually a bit warmer and no rain, even some sun. There is a small African village at the zoo for which we have new appreciation! It looks authentic! And the African birds looked familiar and much more interesting than previously :-) Hated to see the giraffes in their enclosure (Fiona chose a giraffe for her animal and especially wanted to see them today ) but I guess they are not too keen to go out when it's so wet on the grass in their savannah. The hippos were wallowing in their pond, the zebras were spritely, and the one lion we saw was just laying around. And we never got to the elephants this time. The gorillas were in fine form -and there are lots of these well loved bronze sculptures throughout the zoo... . Now we are fantasizing about seeing them in those misty mountains in Uganda!

HIhowareyaspray was also taking photos with her iPod -you can see her real gorilla...

Having just returned from seeing all these magnificent creatures in the wild, I feel like I should say something profound about keeping them in such captivity. But when I see how delighted all the kids are to find them in their larger spaces now and have an idea of their habitat, , and watch how they act, I'm OK with it. They can learn so much about the animals of the world from all the excellent bits of info posted and the docents and the programs there. They can learn a lot about how humans could do a better job of protecting them and their habitat. It's not a bad thing....
Our new word for today is Anthropocene -the epoch of humans...

I'm trying to use flickr more for storage so have put some more zoo shots up HERE on flickr.... It sometimes annoys me to see this as there are lord knows enough photos to look at already... but one doesn't have to go there and it's there for the 1 or 2 (relatives) that might want to and to save some photos against potential disaster...:-)
