Sisterhood - Srebrenica #DayFour

A day travelling back from Bosnia Herzegovina - and what an incredibly wonderful group of fellow travellers.

The impact of this visit with Remembering Srebrenica Scotland will take greater form for each of us over the coming days, weeks, months and years - but the impact of this brilliant, compassionate and insightful group of women on me is immediate. It’s been a deep honour and joy to share this experience with them.

In looking at the Srebrenica genocide and the use of rape and sexual violence in conflict there were so many dark, painful moments. We cried together and supported each other every step of the way. And there was laughter - the healing kind, that creates bonds and keeps you connected.

We are all resolved and committed to doing all we can - individually and collectively - to ensure that the story of the women of Srebrenica is known and that practical projects on the ground receive support.

We also vowed to call out the behaviours and incidents we see closer to home that are the steps towards the “othering” that led to this conflict. Don’t think that it could never happen here...

But for now, a simple but heartfelt thank you...
