Church on Tuesday

St. Mary's church in Wigton contains three stained glass windows which were given by Melvyn Bragg in memory of his mother and father.  Lord Bragg attended St. Mary's as a boy, and was a chorister in this and other churches in the town.  His original plan was to have one window, but discussions with relatives and a local artist eventually led to three windows being made and installed.

The windows depict the town of Wigton alongside religious images. They were designed by a local artist and made at Albion Glass, Brampton.  Two of them have quotations from the bible, and the third has some lines from Wordsworth.

The church contains several other stained glass windows which, together with the light-coloured decoration and furnishings, make it bright and attractive inside.  This also means that both light and shadow can be rendered in a single photograph without needing to use HDR.

The extra is a general view  showing the altar and main window.
