Eastern State

After a decent Continental Breakfast at the Alexander, we walked down to City Hall and JFK Plaza and then through the park to the Art Museum and the Rocky steps – which we dutifully ran up and raised our arms in triumph at the top. After a fairly selective tour and a cup of coffee we went to the Eastern State Penitentiary – closed since 1971 and only occasionally restored, it’s very atmospheric, as a Steve Buscemi-narrated audio tour takes you along lots of dark, cold and semi-ruined corridors lined with rusty-edged cell doors. After that, by way of contrast, we went to the Rodin Museum, bought several pounds of sweeties from Target, went to Chipotle for lunch again, bought trainers for Tom and Katie, tracked down some murals and ended up eventually, inevitably, back at Jim’s Steaks for tea…
