Ancient History Revisited

Thanks to the wonders of the digital age (in this case, Facebook), I learned that an old school friend of mine was in the United States giving a lecture at a college in upstate New York.  I messaged him to see if he might be in the Boston area during his travels, and he let me know that as a matter of fact he would be flying back to England from Logan Airport.  So after more than 40 years, we had a reunion yesterday afternoon.  He hasn't changed one bit (other than perhaps looking a bit more distinguished than he did as a teenager!), and it was absolutely wonderful to catch up with each other over a spot of tea.

Stephen is a bit of a celebrity in the mountain climbing world -- he was the first Briton to ascend Mount Everest without the use of oxygen.  He is also the author of several wonderful books about his climbing experiences.

The quality of this image is less than desirable, but I had to abide by the "rules" which meant that, as the estimable Mr. Venables couldn't alter his schedule to suit my photographic parameters, (he did need to return to his family, after all!) I had to photograph the photograph that was taken yesterday afternoon this morning.
