Life through the lens...

By ValC

A host of golden daffodils.

Phew, what a scorcher!

Mr C had booked for us to have lunch at The Durham Ox, Crayke, North Yorkshire. as a Birthday treat for me.
( actually my birthday is on Saturday, but thought it would be busy at the weekend,)
We went the scenic route through Little Ouseburn. Over the toll bridge at Aldwark. 40p!
Then on to Alne, Easingwold and Crayke.
The countryside is beginning to wake up, and looked beautiful.
The villages were full of daffodils, and the grass verges full of celandines, wood anemones, and primroses.
Some of the trees just beginning to burst into leaf.
This blip photo is the bank of daffodils leading up to the church in Crayke.

The pub is lovely. 300 years old and full of character.
However the mealwas a bit disappointing.
Lovely homemade bread with tapenade and garlic paste with the drinks.
Then a nice starter of spring greens and pesto soup for MrC, and a venison terrine with a delicious chutney for me.
However we both chose the fish pie, and unfortunately the sauce was rather bland, and there wasn’t enough fish.
When asked if we had enjoyed it I told the young lady what I thought.
She said she would mention it to chef. What’s the betting she never did!
They also over charged us £10 .
Fortunately Mr C noticed the mistake, and they amended the bill.
Don’t think we will be going back.

On the way home we stopped in Helmsley, and had a delicious strawberry ripple ice cream, at Ryeburn creamery.
See extra photos of Helmsley.
Just a short walk round as it was so hot!
Again the daffodils were at their best.

Back home now.
Feet up and a cup of tea.
Mr C has had a bottle of beer and is now fast asleep.
Sweet dreams. I have had a lovely day out!

Forgot to mention the temperature reached 28C !!
