A bit of History

This morning I visited the local village church that I attended as a boy and which is now united with our town church. The bell in the wooden frame in front of the pulpit came from St Mary’s church not far from the village and one that was used in the summer months - I remember it well as a wee boy in my kilt !

The old bell was gifted to the church by the Earl of Elgin in 1754 and its sound was recorded and is now played each Sunday through the loudspeaker that can be seen in the extra beside the bell that is not used.
