In Search of Old Torquay. Sean O'Casey Lived Here.

We were privileged today to visit Villa Rosa, Trumlands Rd, Torquay, the home of Sean O'Casey, playwright and author, from 1954 until his death in 1964. A Torbay Civic Society blue plaque, honouring the author, was unveiled by his daughter, Shivaun and for good measure another was placed on the wall outside next to the gates.

There are other plaques honouring the man at the following locations where he also lived.

9 Inisfallen Parade, Dublin Lived there 1882-1888
Flat 49 Overstrand Mansions, Battersea Park, Wandsworth, London.
Dartington Lodge, reputed to have lived there 1938
Tingrith Ashburton Rd, Totnes. Lived there 1938 to 1954

In my early library days I remember someone asking "if we had Seen O'Casey?...... Well, not recently."

A very interesting morning, and an experience to visit the room where O'Casey worked.
