Curling Tonight

Lockerbie Ice Rink again tonight and a very close match it was as well.

The funny thing is (if that is the right expression) it's almost 24 years since there was an almost comedic incident. Comedic if it wasn't for the seriousness of the occasion.

Lockerbie town hall was being used as a temporary morgue for the victims of the Lockerbie bombing in December 1988. It was begining to smell after a couple of days and someone said "if only we had a means of keeping the bodies cold".

There was a stunned silence amidst all the chaos when a local said "What about the Ice Rink?". (Lockerbie was unique in south west Scotland for having an ice rink - a fact which was not known by all the outside agencies which had descended upon the town.)

Even now I still get a slightly eerie sensation as my curling stone rumbles down the ice where all the corpses had been gathered all those years ago.
