Lost Property

I'm always intrigued when I see someone's lost property stuck on a railing or up on a wall. Will they get it back, will someone nick it, will someone spend hours combing the floor unaware that some helpful person has stuck their wedding ring on top of a parking meter? Oh the jeopardy!
