The Old Brewery

This building in Caldbeck, adjacent to Cald Beck, was built as a corn mill in about 1671, and converted to a brewery in 1860.  In WWI it became a crushing and drying mill for barytes, a mineral mined nearby at Potts Gill mine.  It has since been converted into houses, but the chimney and other parts of the structure are Grade 2 listed and therefore protected.  Potts Gill mine ceased production in about 1964.
