Yarner Wood

I decided to go with the local bird watching group to Yarner Woods on Dartmoor.  Its a lovely location and always offers interesting birds.  We weren't disappointed as we arrived early to find that Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers had been seen as well as Willow Warblers.  We spent some time in the location of this blip listening to the call of the Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers but only one other person spotting one in flight, I just caught a glimpse of it.  We slowly wandered around the woods heading down to the centre where the Pied Flycatchers are usually found.  These were seen and we retraced our steps back to the car[ark for lunch.  We managed to see Linnets, Yellow Hammer, Garden Warbler, Mistle Thrush, Blackcap and a Tree Pippet.  While there were expectations of Redstarts they were not seen.

A good morning out with much better weather than expected we even had short periods of sun and only a short drizzle of rain.  A slow walk around Dartmoor was just what my back needed especially when there are lots of opportunities to sit down.
